HERITAGE MUSEUMS AND GARDENS, Whimsical Garden Gates Exhibit, May 19-Sept 30, 2012

"Whimsical Garden Gates," is an outdoor exhibition of a powerful symbol of American culture and a significant garden design element – the garden gate.
Regional artists, including Angela Rose and Lauren Miklavic, were invited to create a fanciful but working garden gate to be exhibited at Heritage opening in mid-May.

These original works of art are featured throughout the grounds and are available for purchase."

                    Welcome to Our World  10' x 2' x 6'

Welcome to our World,
a gate that is, itself, a mini garden

Designed by artist Angela Rose and
garden designer Lauren Miklavic

Fabricated by Aureleo Rosano, the gate is composed of silver painted steel and anchored by twin stock tanks filled with evergreen shrubs, and violet and white plantings.  Metal tubular sculptures adorn the floral composition and tie in visually with the gate detail.  Angela and Lauren transported this gate by van all the way from Angela's studio in
Tucson, Arizona,
on a roadtrip that included stops in
Santa Fe, NM, Cheyenne, WY, Chicago, IL, and Easton, PA

The gate greets you on the path leading to the exhibition hall where works by Norman Rockwell are on display throughout the summer.

Appearances 2012 - Outdoor Installation Provincetown, MA.

This installation by Angela Rose aims to encourage the pedestrian to amble off the trail and explore the water's edge.  The sculpture's silvery color blends in with the winter remains of plants just about to turn green again for the summer season.  As the plant leafs out, the metal sculptures will become more visible.

Angela considers available sites at Clapp's Pond with
Dorothy Palanza, founder and co-chair of Appearances

.                                              The chosen site located along the bank of Chapp's Pond.

The installation begins as Lauren places the metal
tubing and reclaimed aluminum cable sculptures
directly into the soil within the Summer Sweet, a plant of similar shape and color...

Angela arranges from the water view, in case
             the viewer
arrives by boat:
                       "
Move it a little this way, please."

Tall enough to catch the shine of the sun and
eye of the viewer in hopes of enticing them off the
           much traveled path and...

                                                                             (AFTER, right side of bank)
                            ...down to the water's edge...

                                             (AFTER: left side of bank)
If you stand at the edge of the pond and look to the
left...you'll see the three sculptures (above) anchored in
the water...(can you tell where the sculptures stop and
    the  reflection begins?)

At sunset the metal sculpture blends in further, but is still
     detected among the Summer Sweet.

                                                      Angela surveys the day's work.

Garden Delight

Two of A Kind

What I have found in the gardens of Cape Cod is a vibrant array of colors that offer a stunning backdrop in which to "plant" my loopy metal flower bursts

...constructed of reclaimed aluminum cable and conduit, the sculptures are placed amongst the plants and flowers...

...it's my way of enticing you to come outside and play!

Interconnection with nature

"My aim is to offer a way of re-imagining ourselves within nature, as part of nature, rather than separate from it, that's why I position the sculptures in amongst the plants and flowers, rather than on a pedestal."
